The skills, knowledge and experience required to deal with costs are very different from those required to deal with the pure engineering practices.  As a result, the field of cost engineering was born.

Cost engineers prepare and analyze cost related data, including cash projections, productivity reports, monthly progress reports, and  monthly payment applications.  Setting up project budgets, quantity and productivity tracking sheets, along with creating project accounting systems are special areas where cost engineering expertise is needed.
